Braves Defense Blanks Dodgers

Sunday, April 9th

The Holy City Braves won the pitchers duel against the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon 4-0 behind a strong defense and stellar outing by starting pitcher Ethan Halberg

Halberg went the distance to register his first complete game shutout of the year. Pitching efficiency helped him get through the 7 inning as he did not walk a batter while striking out 7 and only allowing 3 hits. The Braves defense was also strong behind their ace pitcher as they did not commit a single error. Dan Zevnik was rock solid at third base as he accounted for 3 assists including some impressive plays.

It was a pitchers duel until the Braves finally broke through with their 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The offense got a little help from two Dodgers errors to start the inning, but the Braves made sure to cash in on the miscues. Jesse Palmer lined a base hit through the 6 hole to plate the eventual winning run of the game. Then  Anibal Martinez hit moonshot that eventually hit off oft the center field wall for a 2 run triple. Sean Manahan continued his hitting ways with 2 hits on the afternoon.

Braves Snap Angles Win Streak with All-Around Effort

Sunday, March 26th

The Holy City Braves put together a balanced offensive and defensive day on the diamond on their way to an 8-4 win on Sunday evening.

Ethan Halberg showed his ace status on the mound going 6 strong innings and recording the win. Halberg did not give up a walk on the night and struck out five Angles batters. The only miscue on Halbergs evening was a misplayed pop up that he eventually threw into right field, nobody said he was a fielder :-) Jesse Palmer closed out the evening with an inning of work, allowing no hits and stranding two runners.

The Braves had a solid offensive attack scoring runs in 5 of their 6 innings at bat. Sean Williams (on his birthday) not only worked the dish all game, but ignited the Braves offensive in the first inning with a timely 2 run single. Sean Manahan continued his hot streak going 3 for 3 on the evening with 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Anibal Martinez reached base each at bat, recording 2 hits and a walk. Martinez scored 2 runs and added 1 rbi. Andy Frye finally broke through at the plate, going 2 for 2 on the evening with a run scored, RBI and added a stolen base.

Braves Benefit from Pirates Errors and Roll To Victory

Sunday, March 19th

The Holy City Braves finally cashed in on some timely hitting as they broke open the game in later innings, earning a 13-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Jesse Palmer turned in his second quality start of the season as he went 5 innings, allowing only 3 hits. Palmer set the tone early as he struck out the side in the first inning, 3 of his 5 total strikeouts on the afternoon. Ethan Halberg would come in to pitch the final two innings. Halberg turned in his sharpest outing of the season as he made quick work of the Pirates, finishing his two innings with 3 strikeouts, 0 walks and only 2 hits.

The Braves put the game away in the 5th and 6th inning as they plated 9 runs during that span.  In the 5th inning Sean Williams had a clutch bases loaded single down the right field line with that would roll past the right fielder and all the way to the wall. Williams would finish the day with 4 RBI's. Braves 3-4 hitters, Sean Manahan and Jack Maynard, led the offensive way with 2 hits each. Maynard stayed hot finishing the day 2 for 3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's. He is currently hitting .500 for the season.

5 Run Inning Proves to Much for HC Braves to Overcome

Tuesday, March 14th

The Holy City Braves were done in by another 5 run inning Tuesday night in Goose Creek, falling to the Dodgers by a final score of 7-4.

The Braves jumped out to the early lead plating 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning. Dodgers starting pitcher, Stoner, was looking sharp as he struck out 7 through the first 3 innings. However, Jack Maynard got things started for the Braves with his team leading 4th hit of the year. Following an Andy Frye Single and Sean Manahan walk, Braves starting third baseman Frank Snyder drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Maynard. After a pass ball scored Manahan from 3rd base, Jesse Palmer singled home Frye to put the Braves up 3 to 0 in the top of the 4th inning.

Braves starting pitcher, Sean Manahan, cruised through his first three innings showing a better control of his pitches coming off his first outing of the season. The Dodgers big bats finally did some damage with 3 straight doubles in the 4th inning. They would go on to score 2 runs in the 4th inning.

Manahan showed signs of fatigue in the 5th inning after 2 hit batters and 2 singles got him in trouble. Manahan was relieved on the mound by Justin Bridges and the Dodgers capitalized on their opportunities to score 5 runs in the 5th inning.

The Braves best chance at a comeback was in the 6th inning when they left the bases loaded. After already scoring 1 run that inning Mike Becker stung a ball to center field that unfortunately was right at the Dodgers center fielder.

The Dodgers pitching staff was sharp on the evening as they struck out 13 Braves batters. Manahan helped himself out at the plate as he scored 2 runs and notched a stolen base. Jesse Palmer led the offensive charge going 1 for 2 with 2 RBI's.

Holy City Braves Finally Capitalize to Pull Away with 9-4 Win

Sunday, March 12th

It was a close game early on behind a great start from veteran right hander, Jesse Palmer. Palmer turned in a solid 4 innings, giving up only one hit on the evening. Palmer turned over the mound duties to Scott Frasnelly in the 5th inning. Frasnelly finished the game, going 3 innings striking out 5 with 0 walks and picking up the Win.

The Braves got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning when Jack Maynard stayed hot by sitting on a curve ball and driving it to right field to score Sean Manahan from second base who had reached on a hit of his own and stolen second. Manahan led the offensive way with 2 hits, 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Justin Bridges continued his timely hitting with a 2 run single in the 4th inning.

The Braves patience and ability to battle at the plate finally paid large dividends in the bottom of the 6th inning when they plated 5 runs to take a commanding lead. All in all the Braves earned 11 free passes with 9 walks and 2 HBP.

The HC Braves are back in action Tuesday, March 14th at 7:30 pm vs the Dodgers.
